My child plays organized sports, is there value in physical education for my athlete?

Print
  • Yes. Physical education (PE) can serve a complementary role to organized sport. A quality PE class not only provides an additional opportunity for physical activity but teaches different skills and fundamental movement patterns that can provide benefits to your child’s health and chosen sport.
  • PE also provides exposure to different sports and activities that may spark a new interest.
  • Increased time in PE appears to be related to higher academic achievement.
  • However, schools vary in both the quantity and quality of PE provided. This is an opportunity for you to advocate for PE in your child’s school.
