How do I encourage positive coaching for my kid?

Print

Sports can be a great way to improve physical and mental health, but in order for all kids to reap the benefits of youth sport, a positive sport culture should be promoted and sustained. Coaches have a unique and direct role in creating such an environment.

  • Do it yourself!
    • Learn about positive coaching and volunteer to be a coach
  • Ask the coach what he/she knows about positive coaching?
    • Be an advocate for positive coaching and share available resources
  • Look for coaches who organize practices that are :
    • Development and fun focused
    • Promote equal playing time
    • Positive and supportive environment
    • Promote skill mastery over performance
